10 Years of Source!

February 28, 2012

The invitation

This is a little bit late but 2012 has so far been a busy year and this is the first chance I’ve had to write this post.

December 7th 2011 saw 10 years from the birth of Source Creative. In 2001 Stephen & Chris started up Source from the main bedroom of Stephen’s home. A year or so was spent there whilst they grew and had to move to more suitable permises and also so Stephen could finally get his house back!

10 years later, a few staff changes and we are still here.

A moment of reflection

With a new look interior we decided a party was in order for clients, a few suppliers and a couple of friends. During the day we shut down all the macs, moved all the desks out of the studio, booked a man who makes the best hotpot and went mad on snacks and drinks. It was a pretty overwhelming evening and we were organising, tidying and sorting right up to the last minute!

Our mugs and calendars

The full time designers at Source – Stephen, Howard & Ben and not forgetting Justyna (our work placement girl who stayed for about 6 months) put together a special 10 year anniversary calendar titled ‘Events’. We wanted to have these along with our Source Creative mugs ready for the party goers to take home with them on the night.

A new look Source with the same great service

A little corner of Source Creative

With a few things changing and moving here at Source we decided it was time for a revamp. Well it has been 10 years after all!

Catherine, that’s me & I’m Stephen’s OH, completed a 3D spatial and interior design course back in June 2011. As I was increasingly having to spend more time at Source Creative it seemed appropriate that I used Source to aid me in my final major project. I decided that completely re-configuring the spaces and moving things around would make the studio feel more like the design studio Stephen thought it should be. Unfortunately these kinds of changes always take time and I seemed to have suddenly accumulated a lot of ‘spare’ time.

So without keeping you waiting too long here are the images of the new, improved Source Creative.

A fond farewell

October 29, 2011

So the time has come for our colleague, administrator and friend to spread her wings and fly off into that hot, hot sunny place that we call Sydney, Australia. Claire will be, for want of a better phrase, leaving us, mid November to fly half way around the World to find what those dreams are made of.

Claire has recently passed a course in Post Production Sound Engineering at Manchester’s School of Sound Recording and now seems as good a time as any for her to pursue this career and where better to do it than in sunny Sydney.

Claire has been with us for over 3 years and has done a fine job of organising us. Most of our clients will know Claire’s voice on the phone as the happy, cheerful one, so lets hope our new administrator, me, can do as good a job at being cheery. We are going to miss you loads, but wish you the best of luck and if you do venture back to the UK wait till your tan has worn off and then come see us!

We absolutely wish her the best of luck and if she gets the time to drop us a line from time to time then we will let you know how she’s getting on and what trouble she gets into or causes!

Bon Voyage buddy and can I fit in your bag?

It’s a Wrap… no, we’re not closing

Wrap launch issue and issue two plus the special edition

The other month it was our 7 year wedding anniversary. My wife has got to be just about the only person who can surprise with me with gifts I’d never expect.

This year it was these beauties. Thank you!

It’s a design magazine that when you’ve finished you can use the pages as wrapping paper. Fantastic! Not sure I can bring myself to cut it up and use it though.

Catherine writes her own blog and follows many others and often happens upon things that you may not necessarily find on the high street.

here’s a few pictures of the insides…

Design for Life (a monster birthday party)

July 29, 2011

It’s nice when you get the chance to utilise your skills at home, and they were certainly put into practice when me and my wife decided to throw a Monster Party for our son’s 4th birthday.

My son is quite obsessive about anything with wheels so he decided it HAD to be a monster dragster party. Invites were designed, critiqued and amended (through 4 versions!) until they were ready for printing.

!ncluded Mini Bus

July 11, 2011

You may have seen the !ncluded minibus on your travels if you live in and around the Blackburn area; you certainly can’t miss it. It was commissioned by !ncluded along with stationary and a booklet, with the brief that it must be appealing to young people.

Here’s our design being applied to the van…

Firstly the van was cleaned down and prepped

Ice Trouser Cave

June 14, 2011

What better way to kick start our Blog than giving a run down of how we created the new home page header? We had so many positive comments about our previous headers (especially the one relating to a certain body part) that we thought it would be great to continue the idea but move it on a little.

After getting together another million and one anagrams, one phrase really stood out – ‘Ice Trouser Cave’. We knew it needed to involve ice and not knowing a local ice sculptor we decided to search out alphabet ice trays.
